The Photographer
About Meg
Equestrian photographer, storyteller, and lifelong horse lover - dedicated to capturing the extraordinary bond between horse and rider.
My Story
A Passion Born in the Saddle
I'm Meg McCoy, and I've been passionate about horses since childhood. Growing up around the yard, I learned early on that the equestrian world holds a beauty unlike any other - one built on trust, patience, and an unspoken bond between horse and human.
My journey into photography began naturally. I started capturing photos of friends' horses - those candid moments of connection that you can't stage. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a deep creative calling, and eventually into Meg McCoy Media, a full business dedicated to fine art equestrian photography and videography.
Every image I create tells a story of trust, partnership, and the quiet beauty of the equestrian world. Whether it's the soft light falling across a stable yard at dawn or the electric energy of a cross-country course, I'm drawn to the moments that reveal what this life truly means to those who live it.
Philosophy
My Approach
"I don't believe in forced poses. The most powerful photographs come from patience, natural light, and waiting for the perfect moment of connection."
Natural Light
I work primarily with natural light, chasing golden hour and the soft glow of overcast skies to create images that feel warm, organic, and true to the moment.
Patience
Great equestrian photography can't be rushed. I take my time, letting horse and rider settle into the session so I can capture authentic, unguarded moments of connection.
Authentic Moments
I don't believe in forced poses. The most beautiful images emerge when you forget the camera is there - the nuzzle, the laugh, the quiet bond that needs no direction.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Session length varies depending on what we're capturing, but on average you can expect around three hours together. That gives us plenty of breathing room to work at a relaxed pace - there's no rushing. We'll take the time to warm up, let the horses settle into their environment, explore different locations around your yard or chosen setting, and try a range of setups from action shots to quiet, intimate portraits. Some sessions run a little shorter if we nail everything quickly, and some run longer if the light is beautiful and we're on a roll. I never cut a session short just because the clock says so - the goal is always to get the best possible images for you.
Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and like yourself. Honestly, the best photos come when you feel relaxed and confident, not when you're tugging at an outfit you'd never normally wear. That said, if you'd like some guidance, I find that solid, muted tones photograph beautifully - think creams, navys, olive greens, burgundy, or soft neutrals. These complement the natural backdrop and keep the focus on you and your horse. I'd generally suggest avoiding large logos, very busy patterns, or anything neon, as these can be distracting in photos and don't age well. But at the end of the day, if your favourite riding top is bright pink and it makes you feel amazing - wear it. We'll make it work.
Yes - bring as many as you like! Whether you have one special horse or a whole yard full, I'd love to photograph them all. Many of my clients have multiple horses and want to capture the unique bond they share with each one, so I build this into the session from the start. We'll work through them one at a time (or together if they get along well in front of the camera), and I'll make sure every horse gets their moment to shine. Just let me know the numbers when you book so I can plan the session time accordingly - the more horses, the more time we'll want to allow so nothing feels rushed.
Absolutely - I travel all over the world for the right shoot. I've photographed horses and riders across the UK, Europe, Australia, and beyond. Whether it's your home yard, a stunning countryside estate, a competition venue, or a dream location you've always had in mind, I'm happy to come to you. For international sessions, I typically build travel into a short trip and can photograph multiple clients in the same region to keep costs manageable. Wherever your horse is, I'll find a way to get there. Just get in touch and we'll work out the logistics together.
You'll have your fully edited gallery within a week of your session. I know the wait can feel like forever when you're excited to see the results, so I work hard to turn things around quickly without cutting corners on quality. Every single image is individually edited and colour-graded to my signature fine art style. Once your gallery is ready, you'll receive a link to your own private online gallery where you can view, download, and share your images. I'll also send you a few sneak peeks within the first day or two to tide you over while I work on the full set!
Absolutely, and I'd really encourage it - there's nothing quite like seeing your favourite horse beautifully printed and hanging on the wall. I work with a professional fine art print lab to offer a range of options including lustre and metallic prints, gallery-wrapped canvases, and beautifully handcrafted albums. Every print is colour-matched to ensure what you see on screen is exactly what arrives at your door. I can help you choose the right sizes and finishes for your space, and prints make incredible gifts for family members, partners, or even your horse's previous owners. Just let me know which images you love and I'll take care of the rest.
